EL PASO, Texas -- There were tense moments in the parking lot of an east El Paso restaurant where an out-of-control driver hit several cars and tried to make a get-away.

KFOX was the only news crew on the scene of the five-car smash-up at the Golden Corral parking lot on Lee Trevino.

Witnesses told police the man apparently got into his car, and began driving erratically through the parking lot badly smashing into five cars.

He then drove off the lot before police arrived.

“He was very fast and we are in the parking lot and then I saw the guy and we run from him because I thought he was going to hit us, so that's why I'm afraid, I'm scared,” Andrea Baliz of East El Paso.

Moments later, our cameras rolled as police found the alleged car involved in the crash, without the driver.

Police said with the license plate number they’re better able to make an arrest, but there was no word on what charges the man would face.
