EL PASO, Texas -- The contractor accused of conning several El Paso homeowners for thousands of dollars pleaded guilty on Friday and is now ordered to pay restitution.Joe Parra, a contractor who was arrested seven months ago on a charge of deceptive business practices, showed up to the 12th floor of the El Paso County Courthouse."I'm just glad everything's been taken care of," said Parra.Parra had eight cases of deceptive business practices against him and he pleaded guilty to two of them and will have to pay thousands of dollars in restitution. His lawyer explained how Parra got into this situation."He got kind of busy, he had a lot of jobs going on. What happened was his aunt got sick in Kentucky. He left unannounced he was gone for two weeks," said attorney Robert Sanchez."I don't believe it. I think because we gave him a lot of opportunities to work with him. I called him in several occasions. I left messages to try to work with him," said Lydia Ortega.Ortega is one of Parras' victims, who was told she would get $4,000 in restitution. She said this is the first time she hears about Parra's sick aunt. She still believes Parra was up to no good from the beginning but now she's glad to know he didn't get away with it."That was our ultimate goal. We wanted to make sure he didn't do this to anyone out there," said Ortega.According to Parra he's out of the business."Remodeling, but that's over now," he said. This is just one out of hundreds of cases the county attorney's office handles. As KFOX reported, that office went took more than 400 deceptive trade practices cases to court last year.
