18-Wheeler Rolls Off Freeway

EL PASO, Texas -- Gateway West near Hawkins Boulevard remained closed during the morning rush hour after an 18-wheeler hauling two trailers rolled on its side and fell of the freeway.The rollover accident happened at 2:30 a.m., and by 8 a.m. wreckers were still working to clean up the mess and tow the truck.The driver said someone cut him off while he was on Interstate 10 and he lost control. The truck turned on its side and slide several feet as it fell off of the freeway. It knocked down a street light, speed limit sign and several trees.“I heard this big noise and I figured a car rolled over. I saw a cloud of smoke and then saw it was a semi rolled over,” said Tom Kolberson, who helped the driver out of the cab.“Next thing I knew, I was upside down. What was going through my mind? Hail Mary! I was saying Hail Mary," said Tommy Hollie, the truck driver.I couldn’t get myself out of the seat belt, and then I smelled diesel,” said Hollie. He managed to crawl out of his seat belt and kick through the windshield. He had a cut on his arm.The truck was hauling 42,000 pounds of electronic components. Hollie said he was a few exits from reaching his destination.
