Almost one ton of pot at a street value of $1,922,000 was seized at the Ysleta port of entry late Wednesday night.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers detected something abnormal about a tractor-trailer's appearance when the trailer pulled up at the Ysleta port of entry. They realized the trailer was empty. Officials then ordered an X-ray exam of the truck and spotted images on the floor of the truck.

After drilling into the floor of the trailer, officials found the marijuana. A total of 1,681 bundles were found in hidden compartments in the floor of the trailer.

“The combination of CBP officer expertise, high technology and canine screening led to this seizure,” said Arthur Gonzales, U.S. Customs and Border Protection acting El Paso port director.
