EL PASO, Texas -- No matter what pill you're taking, it's much easier to swallow if you've paid the lowest price for your prescription. But KFOX uncovered that some El Paso pharmacies might not be letting that happen."We're talking thousands of people that can be affected, and it's more so the insurance companies or government that ends up losing all their money," FBI agent Shanna Beaulieu said, regarding a type of fraud that happens nationwide. The FBI could not release specific details, since the investigation is still under way. KFOX can tell you that this type of fraud may include anything from pharmacies overbilling insurance companies to getting prescription medications off the street in order to save big bucks. So, what can you do to make sure you're not getting scammed?"The key is to check on your own billings at your own pharmacy, what you've been receiving. Check on your prescriptions, and request a list -- they'll provide it to you," Beaulieu said.El Pasoans we spoke with said they don't often think about verifying their prescriptions or seeing how frequently they're getting billed."I will be more careful now that I've found some pharmacies are ripping people off," Northeast El Paso resident Ann Neuman said.If you believe you may be the victim of pharmacy fraud, you can contact the El Paso FBI at 832-5000.
