Officer’s Family Takes Stand In Case Of Officer Accused Of Sex With Minor

EL PASO, Texas -- The defense in the sexual assault trial of an El Paso police patrol officer Luis Nava called several of his family members as witnesses.Nava was accused of having a relationship with the girl, described as being in her mid-teens and a family acquaintance.Nava was charged with sexual assault of a child, sexual performance by a child and possession of child pornography for events that allegedly happened in 2005.Nava’s wife Linda Nava took the stand Tuesday. She testified that the alleged victim was best friends with her daughter and she was always over at their home.She also testified that she discovered there were countless calls from Valles' mobile to Nava's mobile. She testified she called Valles to question her about why she was calling her husband.Nava's stepdaughter also took the stand. She testified that Valles asked her to keep a bag of poems and photos for her. She testified that some of the photos were nude pictures of Valles alone and Valles with men in sexually explicit positions.Nava had been with the El Paso Police Department for six years and was a patrol officer assigned to the Northeast Regional Command.
