Ysleta High School Students Remember Andy Pacheco

As KFOX reported, 18-year-old Andy Pacheco died after crashing his Ford Mustang on Sunday. His friends at Ysleta High School said Pacheco was a fun loving football player on the field, but he was also a favorite of nearly everyone at school.

Ysleta High School students spent much of Monday remembering Pacheco. Posters with pictures adorned the halls, and his football locker became a memorial.

"Why? That's the questions all the kids ask me, why? Why Tovar? I don't know. I don't know why and it's very hard," said Joshua Tovar an Ysleta High School assistant principal.

Tovar has been the administrator for this class since they were freshman. He knew Pacheco as well as any student.

"He was what every parent wants their child to be. Academics, athletics, always positive, he was the one who motivated everybody," said Tovar.

Former students came out to remember him.

"I carry him right here, especially now that he is gone, you know?" said Marco Fierro. "He's gone and he's not going to come back, and it hurts."

And current students said he was a popular kid.

"He was a popular guy but he's also though the simple guy that he has it all, and everyone knows him, but he's happy, he's just the way he is," said Ysleta High School senior Paula Ayala.

The seniors graduate in less than a month, and for those who haven't passed the TAKS test yet, their last chance is Tuesday's testing.

"I'm so scared about how they are going to react or not react with the TAKS, so it's a very trying time," said Tovar.

Students and faculty said Pacheco worked with special needs students in his spare time, and that he had plans to join the El Paso County Sheriff's Office, just like his brother who was also in the car at the time of the accident.
