Residents Protest New Strip Club

Talk of alcohol, table dances and VIP rooms have many Canutillo residents outraged over the new Pegasus Gentleman's Club, located less than a mile away from homes and schools.

"We don't mind them having this type of business, just not in the center of Canutillo," resident Estella Rodriguez said.

Several protested outside the business Friday, and said they worry the strip club will attract crime and lower property values.

"It's these establishments where people make money off of people's lust. And many of these guys end up to be child predators," El Paso resident Randy Graham said.

The owners of Pegasus didn't want to go on camera, but did let us inside. They said about a dozen exotic dancers will perform nightly for patrons who won't be allowed to touch them or meet them outside in the parking lot. The owners also said plenty of security guards will be on hand to keep everyone in check.

In spite of the protests, county commissioners said there's very little they can do, since Canutillo is in an unincorporated part of El Paso, meaning city regulations don't apply.

"They live in the county, because of the freedom you have living in a county in Texas. There's very few restrictions," County Commissioner Dan Haggerty said.
