Brownout Expected To Bring On Bad Allergies

Irma Tinoco and her husband are expecting their fifth child. After last week's nasty winds and dust, Tinoco wanted to be prepared for the brownout expected this week.

"It has gotten worse every pregnancy. I don't know if I have gone a day without wheezing. These winds don't help," Tinoco said.

Extreme winds are expected Wednesday.

Dr. Joe Venzor of Southwest Allergy and Asthma told KFOX that El Paso has an especially bad allergy season. It's not so much the winds, but everything else in the air.

"We are getting ready for pecan pollen. All of this dust is blowing around not to mention the fibers and the mold spores," he said.

Tinoco has both asthma and eczema. She says windy days, especially since she is pregnant, are unbearable. Venzor said there are things you can do before the winds kick in and allergies peak.

"Take your antihistamine before you go out, at least an hour. If you are outside, unfortunately you are going to suffer to some extent, but if you have antihistamine that your doctor has prescribed to you, you want to take it before going outside," he said.
