Some eastsiders had a noisy start to their day as city crews had to do some unusual springtime cleaning on the 1600 block of Lomaland Drive. They brought out their chain saws and chopped up a large tree that was knocked down during a car crash.

El Paso police blame a drowsy teen for the mess in front of the Lake Fairway Apartments. The teen driver told police he was heading home when he fell asleep at the wheel and swerved off the road and into a tree. Seconds later the car caught fire, but the teen escaped in time.

The incident happened at about 3 a.m. The driver was not hurt. Police cited him for speeding.
