Neighbors Complain About Postal Problems In Northeast El Paso

Posted: 4:19 pm MST February 8, 2008Updated: 7:02 pm MST February 8, 2008

Neighbors in northeast El Paso in the 4800 and 4900 blocks of Winthrop Street said they are having problems with their mail.

"I get the mail all the time for 4853 and I live at 4953,"said Anne Williams referring to her address.

They say their letters come late.

"We get our mail what 6:00 at night," said Williams.

Neighbors said this is nothing new.

"Well it's been for years like this. They don't deliver to right addresses anyhow, so I don't think they can read street numbers," said Williams.

It's an issue that one family said led them to a night in the cold. Sabrina Boyzuck said she has not been receiving her bills in the mail. And since she didn't pay the gas company, her gas was shut off on Thursday.

"I have the money,” said Boyzuck. “I'm not getting the mail."

The gas was back on by Friday. Boyzuck said when she does get mail it's often too late to pay bills on time. She says with her busy life getting her bills in the mail is a helpful reminder.

"So if that bill doesn't come in the mail, you don't think about it,” Boyzuck said. “ You rely on it to come in the mail. And that's my fault. I should be paying attention."

The post office conducted an investigation into the problem.

"The postal service strives to deliver mail as it is addressed in a timely manner,” post office spokesman Stephen Seewoester said in an e-mail. “We apologize for any misdirected or delayed mail and will examine and correct any performance issues that affect customer service at any of our El Paso locations."

For neighbors in northeast El Paso, they hope the change comes sooner rather than later.
