Posted: 8:33 pm MST December 24, 2007Updated: 10:52 pm MST December 24, 2007

A crash in Chaparral closed a road near Highway 404 Monday at 6:11 p.m.

New Mexico State Police said one man died while another person was taken by helicopter to Thomason Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Investigators said 3 vehicles were traveling eastbound on 404.

The car in the middle passed the car in front.

A semi then passed the same car.

State Police said while that semi was passing the car, it collided with a Ford Ranger heading westbound.

The Ford's passenger was ejected.

The semi dragged the passenger for a short distance.

His body was then lying in the road when another vehicle hit him and dragged him another 100 feet.

New Mexico State Police, El Paso Police, Sheriff's Deputies, Border Patrol Agents and other law enforcers searched for hours for the drivers of the Semi, who fled on foot, and the driver of the other vehicle that dragged the man.

New Mexico State Police are still investigating the crash.
