9,000 More Troops Coming To El Paso

Plans to expand the U.S. Army will send thousands more troops to Fort Bliss and White Sands Missile Range.

With the Army planning to grow by 65,000 soldiers within the next three years, Fort Bliss is slated to pick up two new brigade combat teams, or about 7,000 soldiers.

And members of New Mexico's congressional delegation say White Sands Missile Range could get as many as 6,000 additional soldiers within the next five years.

El Paso Rep. Silvestre Reyes said when you add these new troops to those already coming here under Base Re-alignment; Fort Bliss will soon be home to about 40,000 soldiers.

Fort Bliss is already going through a $3 billion expansion and the arrival of all the new soldiers, will add billions more to the local economy.
