Conference Brings Dating Violence Awareness

The county attorney's office brought awareness to teens about dating violence.

The Choices and Consequences Conference was held Saturday at the El Paso Housing Authority Complex.

The event was hosted by Gabriella Edwards Holguin of the El Paso County Attorney's Office.

Holguin addressed hundreds of teens on how to see the signs of violence in dating, and how to file for a protective order.

Mary Elllen Hernandez of the Safe Commission Coalition said, “We need to keep giving them not lecturing them, but giving them the message that it's OK to say no if it's not for drugs, alcohol, sex even."

This was the second year for the conference.

More than 140 teens between the ages of 13 and 18 attended.
