EL PASO, Texas -- Most people feel a sense of security when they receive mail. That sense is gone for Sandra De Leon and her husband from Northeast El Paso.KFOX has been reporting on problems with the mail for two years. On Monday De Leon spoke to KFOX about her complaints."When I received a birthday card it was open on the side and a check had been taken out of it," said De Leon. That was back in January and the problem has persisted for months."My husband received his books for his on-line schooling and the package was open then we received a couple of other packages that have been open," said De Leon. They took their mail problems to the Northeast Postal Office Substation. They explained what was happening to their mail and they said the staff at the office told them to return if it happened again. It happened again a few months later and again they were told to return if it happened again. And it did."One of the things we noticed became missing is our Social Security cards," said De Leon. They were told to call a 1-800 to complain, but they only received a letter from San Antonio telling them sometimes packages and envelopes are damaged when they go through processing. KFOX called the post office to get some answers. Inspector Dina Ross said there was no record about complaints in their address, but spoke with the couple about the problems that began in January for the first time on Monday."It's been happening so many times now we just want someone to get the problem fixed," said De Leon. After KFOX made a phone call to the U.S. Postal Service, the U.S. Postal Inspection Service Office is now getting involved.
