El Pasoans React To Toy Recall

After hearing about the third toy-recall of the summer, pre-K teacher and mother of two Julie Castro immediately checked her kids' toys.

"My children have been playing with these toys for a long time, and I'm just assuming that they're safe. But now that they're not, that's really scary," Castro said.

Mattel announced the recall, once again, for excessive amounts of lead paint that could cause brain injury in children if ingested. The recall covers the Fisher Price brand Geotrax Locomotive Line, Big Big World Bongo Band toys and accessories in a Barbie playset.

"The safety of your children is my personal priority, and I want you to know that I will lead safety efforts to ensure that we maintain your trust," Mattel CEO Bob Eckert said.

Mattel said it's now tested the majority of its toy lines, but even so, Castro believes the recall has tarnished the company's reputation.

"They have to change something. If it's the third time, it's like 'three strikes, you're out,'" she said.
