It requires some patience moving through parts of east El Paso.

"We have to go five miles an hour because nothing is going into the ditches. I mean, everything is just full," said Tanya Loya, of east El Paso.

According to our KFOX Early Warning Storm Track Doppler, spots along some well-traveled routes saw 1 1/2 to 2 inches of rain over the past 12 hours.

"Around this area on Lee Trevino... every year, it'll be bad, you know. I don't know why," said Jose Carmona, of east El Paso.

The intersection of James Watt and Lee Trevino was one of the hardest-hit areas during last year's floods. Traffic is limited to a single lane in both directions on Lee Trevino due to ongoing storm drainage work, while part of James Watt is closed due to all the water rushing down it from Monday's rains.

"It's a pretty big inconvenience but hopefully, with the rains and floods, we don't get a Storm 2006 this year," said Carmona.

The repair work at the intersection involves new pavement, sidewalks, and most importantly, drainage improvements. Even though construction won't finish in time to beat this season's rains, summer still has its fans.

"I like the rain. Monsoon season is my favorite. It is," said Loya.

The project at James Watt and Lee Trevino is expected to wrap up in early September at a cost of $435,000.
