Two Watermains Burst In One Day

Crews shut off water to hundreds of homes Saturday, after a 16-inch watermain bursted in Northeast El Paso in the early morning, near the intersection of Dyer and Angora Loop.

"You expect to wake up and be able to have some water to be able to take a shower," Northeast El Paso resident Sabrina Gonzalez said.

While crews tried to pressurize the damaged watermain, another line bursted in the same area. The spokesman for El Paso Water Utilities said it's unclear whether the two busts are related.

"There's a number of reasons why lines break, and so, other than it just appears like it's 100 years old, one could make that assertion. It's really difficult to make the determination of what caused the lines to break," Hector Gonzalez said.

At about 6:30 p.m. Saturday night, the lines had been repaired and water was restored.
