Construction Project Hurts Business In East El Paso

Posted: 7:51 pm MDT June 30, 2007Updated: 9:41 pm MDT July 1, 2007

Ever since construction began to try and fix the drainage problem at Lee Trevino and James Watt, businesses in the area said they've taken a big hit.

"Our customers can't come in like they usually would when the streets are open, and it's really been hurting business a lot," Valley Feed Petsmart Robert Barnes said.

Nearby at SF Performance Center, Hector Hernandez worries his business could soon be forced to close its doors.

"Our sales have been down a lot lately," he said. "In sales as far as money wise, we're probably losing a thousand dollars a day."

The construction is scheduled to be completed in September. No one from the city was available to speak with KFOX.
