Family Poisoned By Gas From Faulty Water Heater

An East El Paso family is lucky to be alive after being treated for carbon monoxide poisoning.

Rescue crews quickly arrived at their home on the 10,000 block of Cuatro Vistas and determined the water heater was releasing dangerous amounts of carbon monoxide.

Investigators said the heater had been previously red-tagged by city inspectors and was turned on before repairs had been made.

Fire officials said you should make sure servicing is done correctly to appliances, and that the flue to your chimney remains clear.

They added it's always a good idea to install a carbon monoxide detector inside your home.
