Police Respond To Numerous Overnight Traffic Crashes

At least two people suffered injuries in a number of traffic accidents late Thursday night.

The first crash happened at about 9:40 p.m. at the intersection of Kellogg and Fairbanks in Northeast El Paso. Police on the scene tell us the driver of a GMC Jimmy ran through a stop sign, hitting a Saturn driving down Fairbanks. No one was hurt, but police did give the driver of the GMC a ticket for running that stop sign.

A little while later, a rollover crash sent two men to the hospital, but police say it could have been much worse. Investigators said the driver involved was traveling westbound on Pellicano towards Zaragosa, when he hit the center divider and over-compensated, drove through the oncoming lanes, and landed part way down the hill on the other side.

Police definitely believe that speed was a factor, and there is suspicion that the driver was also intoxicated. Investigators say the two men were both taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, but one police said considering the severity of the damage done to the car, he was surprised no one died.

And a few hours later, an SUV nearly turned an East El Paso restaurant into a drive-through.

El Paso police say at around 2:45 Friday morning, the driver of a white car cut in front of the SUV, causing its driver to swerve and crash into a pillar of the Lubys at Lee Trevino and Vista Del Sol. No one in the SUV was hurt in the accident.
