Only On KFOX: Injured El Paso Soldier's Mother Speaks

It was less than a week ago that El Paso soldier, Adrian Garcia, was wounded in Iraq.

Last Tuesday, a rocket-propelled grenade hit his convey and Adrian lost both his legs in the blast. Now, the former center for the Yselta High School basketball team is fighting for his life.

Before leaving Iraq, he had to undergo three surgeries. Since being flown to Washington D.C.'s Walter Reed Army Medical Center, he's endured three more.

Adrian's mother, Lourdes Garcia, said despite everything he's been through, Adrian has not lost his will to live, and he's determined to walk again.

Lourdes doesn't know how long Adrian will remain at Walter Reed, but as soon as doctors give him the green light, he will be flown to Brooks Army Medical Center in San Antonio to begin therapy.

When told about the outpouring of support and prayers from the community, Lourdes said, "knowing that so many people care... all of that keeps me going."

Over the past few days, quite a few well wishers have delivered cards for Adrian to KFOX. If you would like to join in and send a get well greeting, you can do so by sending them to 6004 N. Mesa Street El Paso, TX 79912. KFOX will be making sure all correspondence makes it to the Garcia family.
