What had been an anxious Friday morning for the mother of an El Paso soldier wounded in Iraq has taken a turn for the better.

Lourdes Garcia said her 19-year old son, Pvt. Adrian Garcia, has been flown to a military hospital in Germany and is in stable condition.

KFOX first reported on Garcia, a graduate of Ysleta High School, on Thursday. Garcia had only been serving in Iraq for a month when he was seriously injured by a rocket-propelled grenade. His mother said doctors had to amputate both of her son’s legs.

Lourdes told KFOX that a family friend who lives in Germany has seen Garcia and said he is heavily sedated.

Lourdes said the Army has told her that once her son was transferred, she would fly to be reunited with him.

In an update, Lourdes spoke with KFOX once again Sunday evening.

She said Adrian Garcia was flown to Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. Sunday morning. According to Lourdes Garcia, she plans to visit her son within a few days.
