BREAKING NEWS: Cracked Vial Closes Portion Of Postal Facility

A postal employee earlier today came across a cracked vial labeled "African Sleeping Illness." Postal spokeswoman Amanda McMurrey tells KFOX that several emergency responders were contacted including the El Paso County Health Department, Fire Department, El Paso Police, FBI and U.S. Postal Inspectors office, once the discovery took place.

McMurrey went on to say that she was told by Health Department officials, that African Sleeping Illness is a blood borne pathogen, and not an airborne one. However, there was enough concern by Hazmat to close and evacuate a portion of the postal facility.

McMurrey says the FBI have taken control of the vial for further investigation. She said it is not known at this time as to whether the vial was packaged correctly according to Postal transfer service code.

Normal postal operations restarted and a KFOX staffer was told that holiday shipping and receiving was not affected.

We will have more details on today's incident at the Postal facility on KFOX News at Nine.
