Cleveland, OH -- (Sports Network) - Joe Crede and Juan Uribe homered to back the two-hit pitching of John Danks and three relievers, as the Chicago White Sox salvaged the finale of a three-game season-opening series against the Cleveland Indians with a 2-1 victory at Progressive Field. Danks did not yield a hit until the sixth and finished allowing only one run on two hits in 6 2/3 innings. He walked two and struck out a pair, but Octavio Dotel (1-1) notched the win by recording the last out of the seventh inning. Scott Linebrink worked the eighth and Bobby Jenks notched the save with a perfect ninth. Ryan Garko drove in the lone run for the Indians, who had captured the first two games of the series by scores of 10-8 and 7-2. Cleveland starter Jake Westbrook (0-1) pitched well over 7 1/3 innings, allowing just two runs on six hits with a walk and three strikeouts.Final Score: Kansas City 4, Detroit 1 Detroit, MI (Sports Network) - Zack Greinke hurled seven solid innings, and Alex Gordon and Mark Teahen both homered as Kansas City completed a three-game sweep of Detroit by downing the Tigers, 4-1, at Comerica Park. Greinke (1-0) allowed just one run on six hits for the Royals, who had captured the first two games of the series by scores of 5-4 and 4-0 and are now 3-0 to start the season for the first time since reeling off nine straight wins to kick off the 2003 campaign. Gordon hit a two-run homer for Kansas City, while Teahen was 2-for-4 with a solo shot. Brandon Inge was 2-for-3 with a solo homer for the Tigers, who have lost their first three games of the year for the first time since 2003, when the club dropped nine straight to open the season en route to an AL-high 119 losses. Jeremy Bonderman (0-1) surrendered four runs on eight hits in 6 1/3 innings en route to the loss. Final Score: LA Angels of Anaheim 5, Minnesota 4 Minneapolis, MN (Sports Network) - Gary Matthews Jr., Torii Hunter and Mike Napoli all homered, and Ervin Santana threw six strong innings as the LA Angels of Anaheim downed Minnesota, 5-4, in the finale of a season-opening four-game set from the Metrodome. Matthews hit a two-run homer while Hunter and Napoli added solo shots for the Angels, who won the final three games of the series after dropping the opener. Maicer Izturis also drove in a run for Los Angeles. Santana (1-0) allowed just two runs on four hits in six innings to earn the win. Francisco Rodriguez hurled a scoreless ninth to record his second save. Joe Mauer finished 2-for-3 with two RBI for the Twins, who have lost seven of their last eight games against Los Angeles. Jason Kubel added a solo homer and Justin Morneau also had an RBI for Minnesota. Kevin Slowey (0-1) allowed three runs on four hits in 3 1/3 innings before exiting with a right biceps strain. Brian Bass followed and gave up a pair of runs in 3 1/3 innings of work. Final Score: New York 3, Toronto 2 Bronx, NY (Sports Network) - Bobby Abreu singled in the go-ahead run in the eighth inning, as the Yankees rallied for a 3-2 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays in the rubber match of a season-opening three-game series. Abreu had two of the six hits for the Yankees, who came back from a 2-0 deficit and won with spectacular relief from the tandem of Billy Traber, Brian Bruney, Joba Chamberlain (1-0) and Mariano Rivera. David Eckstein went 2-for-4 with an RBI and scored for the Blue Jays, who left the potential tying run stranded at third base in the ninth. Toronto's Dustin McGowan gave up four hits and two runs over six innings, while Phil Hughes had a similar line in his start for New York. Melky Cabrera singled to right field to start the New York eighth, and Scott Downs then replaced Brian Wolfe (0-1) on the mound for the Blue Jays. Johnny Damon put down a sacrifice bunt, but Downs bobbled the ball along the first base side, and both runners were safe. Derek Jeter then put down a sacrifice bunt before Abreu blooped a base hit in front of center fielder Vernon Wells. Tampa Bay at Baltimore, Postponed Baltimore, MD (Sports Network) - Thursday's game between the Baltimore Orioles and Tampa Bay Rays at Camden Yards has been postponed due to rain. A make-up date for the game will be announced at a later time. The Orioles continue their season opening homestand Friday, starting a four- game series against the Seattle Mariners, while the Rays travel north for a four-game set against the New York Yankees.
