507th Maintenance Company

KFOX News coverage of the attack on the 507th Maintenance Company from Ft. Bliss has been recognized as the most complete coverage available from any media source in the world. Known to most as "Jessica Lynch's unit," many soldiers of the 507th were cited for their heroism in combat. 507th soldiers received 1 Silver Star, 1 Bronze Star with "V" for Valor, 7 Bronze Stars, 16 Purple Hearts and 5 POW medals.

For its coverage of the unit, KFOX News was honored with the Radio and Television News Director's Association Edward R. Murrow Award for Continuing Coverage; Texas Associated Press Awards for Documentary, Continuing Coverage and Breaking News; and New Mexico Associated Press Awards for Documentary and Continuing Coverage.

The KFOX Documentary Attack at Nasiriyah is presented at right in its original form from May 2003. It is divided into the four segments that it aired in - each about six minutes long. A few of the details of the story have become clearer with time, such as the bridge the unit crossed (the furthest to the South, or to the right of the map). Further KFOX coverage on the previous page clarifies the few details that were still cloudy at the time the Documentary aired.
