EL PASO, Texas -- A soldier with ties to El Paso died because of injuries he suffered in Afghanistan.

Officials said Sgt. Jaime Gonzalez, 40, died last Saturday after his vehicle hit a mine.

Gonzalez was born in El Paso and served as part of the 436 Chemical Company of the Texas National Guard.

Visitation for Gonzalez will be this Wednesday at sunset funeral home on Hondo Pass from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

And the funeral will be held at 12:30 p.m. Thursday at Iglesia Bautista Trinity Church.
