Parenting Christmas Crafts

December 15, 2003 --

In this holiday season we offer a gift-giving idea that comes straight from the heart. One which teaches kids to get involved in the spirit of giving.

If you want to warm the heart of someone special this holiday season, help your little elves make their own holiday gifts, like these white chocolate-dipped pretzels wrapped with a personal touch.

Crafts expert Robin Maguire tells us how. She says you first will need some large pretzel logs, two bags of white chocolate, some candy and nut sprinkles, and some dark chocolate for drizzling. Melt the white chocolate in a bowl set in warm water according to the package directions. If its too thick, try stirring in a tablespoon of shortening.

Robin Maguire-Crafts Expert: "We're going to take one pretzel, and dip it in (the chocolate). Okay, so now you're ready to decorate."

While the chocolate is still warm, trim your treat with your favorite kind of sprinkle. For a dusting of candy cane, try this trick. Put it inside a bag and pound until you've got easy-to-use bits.

For a final touch, melt some chocolate chips in a plastic bag. Snip the corner and drizzle away.

Robin Maguire-Crafts Expert: "It's a great gift because it can be tailored to any holiday."

While you're waiting for your treats to cool, try your hand at some personalized wrapping paper. Put your decked out treats in a personalized mug, and you've got a treasured gift, made only more special when its delivered by Santa's helpers.
