Organizers Promise 'Balls Of Fun'

Some young farmers and ranchers in Santa Cruz County, Calif., will be serving up all-you-can-eat bull testicles at what they're calling a "Testicle Festival."

TV station KSBW reported that the festival will be held in Watsonville, Calif., and will cost $40. Organizers said they're already having a lot of fun.

"We are having fun with the name. People are coming up with plenty of different puns," said Lindsey Roberts, chairwoman of the new Santa Cruz County Young Farmers and Ranchers organization.

Some of those puns are featured on a flyer promoting the event. A section of the pamphlet features the saying, "No bull … join us for balls of fun!!!"

Roberts said they wanted to do something unique that would grab people's attention for the group's first fundraiser.

"We wanted to do something nobody else was doing. Other groups have crab feeds or similar things, and (mountain oysters) is part of this old ranch style theme that goes along with our committee well," Roberts said.

Roberts said the group is expecting about 100 people to come out for the event and dine on the Rocky Mountain oysters, which will be deep fried and are USDA inspected.

"People do love them," Roberts said. "They are a delicacy."

She said anyone squeamish of the festival's namesake -- also known as rocky mountain oysters, cowboy caviar, prairie oysters, swinging sirloin and calf fries -- can also much on less intimate food such as chicken and potato salad.
