Fire Stations Prepare For Flood With Sandbags

Fire stations in Dona Ana County are making sandbags available to residents in preparation for the monsoon season's heavy rain.
"We're hopeful that people will come by the station if they're concerned or have experienced flooding in the past," said Deputy Chief Travis Brown of the Las Cruces Fire Department.
"Hopefully they'll come by and pick up a few sandbags and take the necessary precautions to hopefully help reduce any damage they may encounter," he said.
A significant amount of rain during the last few weeks has caused residents like Edwina Herrera to be concerned.
Herrera said Corbett Street, where she lives floods, to about two feet almost everytime it rains.
"I mean it's awful, you see things just going down the streets... people's cars get smacked with water every time it comes up," she said.
The sandbags are available at every fire station in Las Cruces. Residents are limited to 10 sandbags for each household.
