Even John Calipari had to admire the win by Robert Morris over his Kentucky team, shocking though it was. Check it out: “This is a shot in the arm for them and they deserve to win the game. If we’d have won at the buzzer, it would have been a shame.”
Considering what he and his team are likely to hear after this, that was extremely gracious of Calipari, who has to go back to Lexington where he’s going to get the business.
Making things worse for him, the game was just a short distance from his childhood home.
He’s right of course; this is unbelievable for RMU. Duke, UNC, Kentucky and schools like that – for them (us), this is no big deal. For a school with a 3,056 seat arena which was only used because Rupp is being used for the NCAA? For a school in the Pittsburgh area so overlooked that the Post-Gazette didn’t even send a reporter, relying instead on a wire story?
It’s an amazing story. Congrats to the Colonials on what is almost certainly the biggest win in their history.
