Furman coach Jeff Jackson has resigned from his post at the Southern Conference school. Some have hinted at the resignation not being exactly voluntary on Jackson's behalf.

Furman Athletic Director Gary Clark touched on the resignation and an official statement:

“We respect Coach Jackson's decision to resign and pursue other career opportunities, whether in coaching or other areas. We appreciate the manner in which he has represented Furman University and Furman athletics. He has recruited quality young men who have performed in the classroom and represented Furman with class on the basketball court. We wish Coach Jackson all the best in his future endeavors.”

Jackson was at the helm for seven years for the Purple Paladins and had a 85-131 record over his tenure. He only had one winning season, 2010-11, in which Furman went 22-11 and garnered an invite from the CollegeInsider.com Tournament. It was the Paladins first postseason appearance since 1991.

Bob Richey has been named the interim coach while Furman interviews candidates.

Before coming to Furman in 2006, Jackson was the head coach at New Hampshire (1996-99) and an assistant at Vanderbilt, Stanford, Colorado State, USC, Saint Bonaventure, and Cornell.
