So the only loss in almost two months for the team that's alone in first place is the only conference win for the team that's alone in last place. Naturally.
Here's how things are looking after this weekend's events:
First Round - Tuesday, March 12
Second Round - Wednesday, March 13
Quarterfinals - Thursday, March 14
Semifinals - Friday, March 15
Championship Game - Saturday, March 16
I love the late session.
--Syracuse, Louisville and Marquette are all tied for second place with identical 10-4 league records. Syracuse earns the two seed for the moment by virtue of its win over Louisville, which beat Marquette. The Orange and the Golden Eagles will square off tonight in Milwaukee.
--Notre Dame remains a half game out of the top four with a 10-5 record.
--Connecticut, which is ineligible for postseason play, remains alone in sixth-place at 9-5.
--Pittsburgh and Villanova are both 9-6, but the Panthers earn the six seed since by virtue of owning the head-to-head tiebreaker.
--Providence and Cincinnati are now both 7-8, which means the Friars move up to claim the nine seed thanks to their win over the Bearcats on Feb. 6.
--The battle for the bottom is really heating up as last-place South Florida (1-13) remains a full game behind DePaul (2-12) and a half game behind Seton Hall (2-13).
