Several hundred guys put themselves in women's shoes -- literally -- for a walk Sunday in Milwaukee.
They wore high heels for one-mile walk around the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee campus to raise awareness and money to fight domestic violence. The guys were given the option of trading their high heels for flip-flops at the quarter-mile mark for a $10 donation."Navigating the cracks in the sidewalk is an issue. I have a whole new respect for you women," Robert Wright told Milwaukee television station WISN.Jeff Sherman stuck it out. But he said his wife walked beside him, laughing the whole way. But there were serious concerns at the event."In America, 1 in 3 women in their lifetime are affected by this blight. If you count the ticks of the clock, every 15 seconds another woman becomes a victim," Michael McMahon with Verizon Wireless said."It tears the very fabric of community. It tears apart families. It causes so much trauma. It pushes our hospital and mental health systems," Milwaukee Health Commissioner Bevan Baker said.More information on the event is available at WAMMilwaukee.org.
