Contact Phone Number: 915-851-0093 The San Elizario Historic District will present two free guided walking tours of the Nationally recognized Historic District on the 4th Sunday of every month. Participants are asked to gather at the Main Street Mercantile, 15 minutes prior to the tour. This is a walking tour, at a slow pace. Learn about the 17 historic sites of San Elizario, about the arrival of Don Juan de Onate to the area in 1598 and the First Thanksgiving Celebration, learn about the Presidio de San Elizario and the San Elcear Chapel on the Mission Trail. You will learn about the Apache Peace Camp, the visit by infamous William H Bonney (Billy the Kid) and the long remembered Salt War of 1877. Visit the Veterans Memorial Museum (Eduardo M Pedergon Museum) and the Veterans Walk. Stroll the original Camino Real and don’t forget your camera!!
