EL PASO, Texas - Actress Rosario Dawson will speak to a large group of women as a keynote speaker in the spring of 2014. 

The YMCA El Paso del Norte Region made the announcement.

Dawson who is an actress and philanthropist will be in El Paso on April 17 for the 21st annual Women's Luncheon.

The event focuses on raising money to help programs aimed at women and children and strengthen families in transition.

The well-known actress has played leading roles in films like "Sin City," "Rent" and "Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief."

Dawson's was recently rewarded with the "President's Volunteer Service Award" for her contributions to the community and encouragement in getting others involved.

The historic Plaza Theatre will be transformed into "A Whole New World" on Saturday as Kids-N-Co., the nonprofit El Paso theater company for children and young adults, presents its production of the popular Disney musical "Aladdin."
