Singer and Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Hudson is pregnant with her first child, according to a report in the Chicago Tribune.

Hudson's longtime friend, singer-actress Felicia Fields, told the Tribune that a baby shower was given in Hudson's honor on Saturday.

"It was a baby shower, a quiet gathering of friends and mostly family,” Fields said.

Hudson's friend said that Hudson did not want to reveal when the baby was due. The singer is engaged to lawyer-turned-wrestler David Otunga.

Rumors of the Hudson's pregnancy have been spurred by the singer's appearance of late, the Tribune said.

The last couple of years have been filled with highs and lows for the former "American Idol" top 10 finalist.

In 2007, Hudson won a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her debut acting role in the movie musical "Dreamgirls."

Last October, Hudson's mother, brother and nephew were shot to death in Chicago. Her ex brother-in-law, William Balfour, pleaded not guilty to murder charges in January.
