Rapper DMX Accused Of Speeding 114 MPH

Cameras Catch Rapper Racing On Freeway, Authorities Say

POSTED: 5:16 pm MDT May 7, 2008

Rapper DMX has been arrested on charges of racing on a highway after speed cameras on a Phoenix-area freeway caught him going 114 miles an hour, Arizona Department of Public Safety officers said.

DMX, whose real name is Earl Simmons, was taken into custody on Tuesday at his Cave Creek home and booked on charges of racing on a highway, reckless driving, two counts of endangerment and three counts of criminal speed and driving on a suspended license, reported KPHO-TV in Phoenix.

Simmons was photographed on Jan. 21 by stationary cameras on the northbound lanes of the Loop 101 driving a 1966 Chevy Nova II at a speed of 100 mph, DPS officers said.

One minute later, additional cameras on Loop 101 recorded Simmons' speed at 114 mph, officers said.

Less than three minutes later, Simmons was caught on camera at 101 miles per hour, officers said. The posted speed limit is 65 mph.

Simmons was booked into the Scottsdale City Jail and posted bond on Wednesday. His case was forwarded to the Scottsdale city prosecutor's office.

Simmons' arrest comes eight months after a raid on his Cave Creek home turned up guns, drugs and allegedly abused animals.
