KELLY CLARKSON(Winner)

-Carkson became the first "American Idol” with 57% of the audience's votes over Justin Guarini.

-She joined the final 10 contestants in a 30-date/7 week arena tour from Seattle to New York playing to over 200,000 fans.

-She broke a record held by the Beatles when "A Moment Like This" jumped from No. 52 to No. 1, the biggest jump in Billboard history.

-"A Moment Like This" was the No. 1 single of 2002.

-The follow-up, "Miss Independent," scored top-10 airplay at top 40.

-Her debut album, Thankful, debuted at No. 1 in May 2003, and sold nearly 297,000 copies in its first week.

-Thankful received a Grammy nomination for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.

-Thankful closed out the year certified double Platinum, giving her a share of the honor of having the best selling debut by a solo female artist.

-She had a 2004 guest stint on the NBC series "American Dreams" as pop singer Brenda Lee

-Once free of her "Idol" obligations, Clarkson releasing her sophomore effort, Breakaway, selling more than 5.7 million copies

JUSTIN GUARINI(Runner- Up)

-Guarini was immediately signed by 19 Entertainment and a global recording deal with RCA

-His CD, titled Justin Guarini, debuting at No. 20 on the Billboard 200.

-It sold only 142,000 copies, and Guarini was dropped by the record label

-He and Clarkson were cast in the hastily assembled 2003 film "From Justin to Kelly," which grossed $4,922,166 at the box office.

-Guarini has a new CD, Stranger Things Have Happened, recorded independently and available for purchase on his Web site

-Guarini is starring in the film "Fast Girl," slated for release in 2007

-2007: Guarini has joined TV Guide Channel's ‘Idol Tonight,’ providing commentary “Idol,” alongside co-host Kimberly Caldwell (a Season 2 finalist)

NIKKI MCKIBBIN (3rd Place)

-Dropped by RCA Victor after refusing to make a country record

-She made guest shots on reality shows, such as "Fear Factor."

-She is still working on first solo record (she recently cut a remake of the Mr. Big hit "To Be With You")

TAMYRA GRAY(4th Place)

-The Dreamer, Gray’s 2004 debut album, has sold around 125,000 copies.

-Gray performed a duet with Season 1 winner Kelly Clarkson on Clarkson's debut release Thankful. The song, "You Thought Wrong," was co-written by Gray

-2004: Gray was cast for a limited engagement role in Broadway show, “Bombay Dreams”

-Since her stint on TV’s "Boston Public" in 2003, she's appeared on "What I Like About You," "Half & Half," "Tru Calling" and, most recently, "Las Vegas."

-Gray appeared in the 2005 feature, "The Gospel," for which she also sang on the soundtrack

-She recently scored a national print and commercial campaign with H&M

RUBEN STUDDARD (Winner)

-Studdard's first single, a cover of Westlife's "Flying Without Wings" (sung on the show's finale), debuted at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 in June 2003

-"Flying Without Wings" / "Superstar" went on to become the second-best selling single of 2003 (behind Aiken)

-"Sorry 2004" registered at No. 9 in February 2004.

-Ruben's debut album Soulful 2003's debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 album chart, selling 416,500 copies during its first week in U.S. stores

-Studdard's cover of "Superstar" was nominated for a 2003 Grammy Award.

-He also won the NAACP Outstanding New Artist Award in 2004.

-A second gospel holiday album, I Need An Angel, took the No. 1 spot on the Gospel sales chart and was No. 20 on Billboard's album chart in 2004.

-Studdard's third album, The Return, arrived in stores in October 2006, entering at No. 8 on Billboard's album chart.

-2006: "Change Me" bowed at No. 94 to become his first song on the Hot 100 in over two years.

-Studdard also became a spokesman in his native Alabama to encourage obese people to lose weight.

CLAY AIKEN(Runner- Up)

-Though he finished second to Studdard, Aiken hit platinum with his first single, "This Is the Night," backed with "Bridge Over Troubled Water," which debuted at No. 1.

-"This Is the Night" / "Bridge Over Troubled Water" became 2003’s bestselling single of the year

-His first album, Measure of a Man, also opened at No. 1 on the charts, selling 4.3 million copies, including 613,000 its first week

-His second album, Merry Christmas With Love, debuted at No. 1 on Billboard's Top Holiday Albums chart with first week sales of 270,100 units, and opened at No. 4 on The Billboard 200

-Aiken earned a devoted concertgoing fan group called the "Claymates"

-“A Clay Aiken Christmas” special aired on NBC on December 8, 2004

-Merry Christmas With Love was the No. 1 Christian album in 2005

-Aiken guest-starred on NBC's “Scrubs”, and as himself on the soap operas “All My Children” and “Days of Our Lives”

-2005: an ambassador for UNICEF, Aiken toured the tsunami-ravaged Indonesian province of Aceh on a fact-finding mission

-Aiken gives offstage time to his charitable foundation for disabled kids

-His third album, A Thousand Different Ways, was released in September 2006 and debuted at no. 2 on the Billboard chart after selling 211,000 copies

KIMBERLY LOCKE(3rd Place)

-Though she was cut before the finals, Locke did land a spot on the program's resulting tour, and that exposure led to a recording contract with Curb.

-Locke was the first Idol finalist to debut at #1 on the Billboard 100 with a non-Idol single ("8th World Wonder").

-She signed with Ford Models, has a lingerie line with Lane Bryant, and signed on as a Jenny Craig spokesman.

-2007: Locke is a participant on the fifth season of the VH1 reality-show “Celebrity Fit Club”

-In 2006, Locke was a judge and co-host on the MTV reality-show competition "The Little Talent Show".

-Locke is set to release her second album, Based On A True Story, on May 1, 2007, - featuring the hit single "Change," which currently sits at #13 on the Billboard chart.

JOSH GRACIN(4th Place)

-Gracin’s Marine unit was never called into action, and he ended up finishing fourth behind Reuben Studdard.

-June 2004: Gracin released his self-titled debut, featuring the singles "I Want to Live" and "Nothing to Lose."

-Two months later Gracin was honorably discharged from the Marine Corps.

-In its first week on the charts, Josh Gracin ranked No. 11 on the Billboard 200 and eventually peaked at No. 2

-Josh Gracin entered at No. 2 on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart, and had opening sales of 57,048

-"I Want to Live" peaked at No. 4 at country radio, while “Nothin' To Lose" reached the No. 1 spot on both the pop and country charts.

-Josh Gracin was certified gold in fall of 2005.

-The album earned Gracin a best new artist nod from the Academy of Country Music

-He contributed to a few Disney movie soundtracks such as "The Fox and the Hound 2" and "Herbie: Fully Loaded."

-He was a guest star on "The Young and the Restless" in June 2006

-In 2006, he performed at the Pentagon for the Army's 231st birthday celebration

-Married with a child during his audition, he has three kids now.

-His next album, All About Y'All, is poised for release, and has just released a new single, 'Favorite State of Mind'

FANTASIA BARRINO (Winner)

-Fantasia was signed to Simon Fuller’s 19 Recordings, which released her album through Clive Davis’ SonyBMG.

-Her first single, "I Believe" (co-written by former "Idol" contestant Tamyra Gray), reached No. 1 on the singles chart

-“I Believe” marked the first time in Billboard Hot 100 chart history that an artist went straight to No. 1 with his or her inaugural single.

-This led to the arrival of Fantasia’s debut album, Free Yourself, in 2004, which entered the charts at No. 8 with 239,000 copies.

-She has garnered more than 20 award nominations from the Grammy Awards, American Music Awards, Vibe Awards, Soul Train Awards and Soul Train “Lady of Soul” Awards, Billboard Music Awards and R&B and Hip-Hop Awards, BET Awards, NAACP Image Awards and Teen Choice Awards.

-Her success culminated in a NY Times best-selling autobiography, “Life is Not a Fairy Tale” and was adapted as a Lifetime original movie in August 2006

-“The Fantasia Barrino Story: Life Is Not a Fairy Tale” was watched by 6.6 million viewers in its debut and by an additional 12.4 million by the time reruns played out.

-She worked with music greats Missy Elliot, Big Boi, OutKast, Dre, Vidal and Swizz Beatz on her self-titled album, FANTASIA,” which was released last Dec. 12.

-Fantasia made her Broadway debut in “The Color Purple” in April 2007-- her first week in the show shot sales up by a staggering $366,598 to $1,183,722.

DIANA DEGARMO(Runner- Up)

-DeGarmo’s first single, “Dreams,” hit No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Singles Sales chart, followed by her album Blue Skies.

-Released in December 2004, Blue Skies debuted at No. 51 on the Billboard album chart.

-DeGarmo’s voice is heard on the song “Reachin’ for Heaven” on the Disney soundtrack Ice Princess.

-She made her Broadway debut in "Hairspray" in Spring 2006, then fulfilled her commitment to star in the title role of “BKLYN The Musical” in the national tour.

-DeGarmo just returned from Camp Victory near Baghdad's airport where she sang for the troops on a USO holiday tour.

JENNIFER HUDSON(7th Place)

-Hudson won the supporting-actress Academy Award for the role of Effie White for "Dreamgirls," her first movie, two years after she shot to celebrity as an "American Idol" finalist.

-Hudson beat out Fantasia Barrino, the winner of this season, and some 800 other candidates, for the role.

-Hudson also won Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild awards for her "Dreamgirls” role, and was named Soul Train Music Awards' Entertainer of the Year

-“Dreamgirls” sold $8.8 million worth of tickets to claim the top spot at the box office, the single highest daily gross for a musical in motion picture history.

-The “Dreamgirls” soundtrack reached No. 1 on the Billboard Top 200 album chart after five weeks in release, the first film soundtrack to rise to the top since "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" in 2002

-Hudson’s version of "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going” reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Dance Club Play chart.

-Hudson became the third African-American to grace the cover of Vogue magazine.

-Hudson signed with Arista Records to record her debut CD, which she will release in 2007

JASMINE TRIAS(3rd Place)

-Trias released two albums -- one in the U.S. and one in the Philippines, where she was certified platinum.

-Although she has failed to achieve commercial success in the mainland US, she has become a major celebrity in other countries, such as the Philippines and Japan, where she is signed with Universal Records.

WILLIAM HUNG(Audition Reject)

-The University of California, Berkeley student, who never made it past the first audition, became popular following his rendition of Ricky Martin's "She Bangs"

-Although bounced from the show, Hung gained a cult following and landed a record deal with Koch Records.

-His album Inspiration debuted at #34 on the Billboard album charts upon its release in April of 2004.

-With covers of "Rocket Man," and "YMCA," Inspiration sold some 195,000 copies

-Hung has old-sold out former contestants Kimberly Locke, Diana DeGarmo and Justin Guarini.

-Hung says he’s earned over $1 million since “Idol.”

-He was crowned "Artichoke King" in Castroville, Calif., which fancies itself the "artichoke capital of the world." Hung rode in a parade and sang off-key versions of "Surfin' USA" and "Achy Breaky Heart.”

2005 -- SEASON 4

CARRIE UNDERWOOD(Winner)

-Following her win, she performed on the American Idol tour and signed advertising deals for Hershey's chocolate and Skechers shoes

-Her single "Inside Your Heaven" debuted at No. 1, with sales of 170,000, and went on to be 2005’s best-selling single

-She broke Billboard chart history as the first country music artist ever to debut at No. 1 on the Hot 100.

-Her debut album Some Hearts sold 315,000 copies in its debut week, the most for any debut CD from a country artist.

-She became the first female country artist to achieve four No. 1 singles from her debut album: "Jesus, Take the Wheel," "Don't Forget to Remember Me," and "Before He Cheats" and "Wasted"

-2006: Underwood became the first solo female artist to have the No. 1 album of the year since 1996, when Alanis Morissette was on top with "Jagged Little Pill."

-Some Hearts has spent time at No. 1 in three consecutive years: 2005, 2006 and 2007, selling more than 3 million units in 2006.

-Some Hearts is the best-selling, single-disc country album by any artist since the Dixie Chicks’ Home, released in August of 2002, according to SoundScan

-2007: at the Grammy Awards, Underwood took home the coveted best new artist award as well as a trophy for best country vocal performance for "Jesus, Take the Wheel." (The song was also named best country song.)

-Underwood is the big winner at the 2007 CMT Music Awards, when her music video for "Before He Cheats" wins video of the year, female video and best video director.

-In May 2007, she becomes the first “Idol” winner to grace a Cosmo cover.

BO BICE(Runner- Up)

-Bice was bumped temporarily from the "American Idols Live!" road show last summer when he broke his foot onstage.

-Then he had to pull out of the tour altogether in August after undergoing emergency surgery to remove a blockage from his intestines.

-His debut album, The Real Thing, charted initially at No. 4.

-Bice's two-sided hit "Inside Your Heaven" / "Vehicle" was second-highest selling single in 2005

-He appeared with Trey Anastasio of Phish at the Bonaroo Music Festival, took the stage with Willie Nelson at Farm Aid, and sang on the latest album by Carlos Santana.

2006 -- SEASON 5

TAYLOR HICKS(Winner)

-Hicks released the album "In Your Time" in 1997 and a second, "Under the Radar," in 2005 prior to his "Idol" triumph in May 2006.

-His third album, the self-titled "Taylor Hicks," debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard charts in late 2006 and has since sold some 650,000 copies (considerably less than the post-"Idol" debuts of his predecessors).

-The album produced a No. 1 single on Billboard, "Do I Make You Proud."

-Billboard said it was the first No. 1 single in the history of the US charts to fall off the charts in less than ten weeks.

-"Do I Make You Proud" moved 190,000 physical singles and another 38,000 digital downloads of the track, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

-Spending nine weeks at No. 1, had the best-selling title of 2006 with "Do I Make You Proud" / "Takin' It to the Streets"

-Released on December 12, 2006, Hicks issued his 19 Recordings/Arista debut album, Taylor.

-Taylor debuted at No. 2 and had been certified platinum for sales of 1 million.

-Taylor sold 298,000 copies in its first week and 500,000 copies in one month.

-As of March 2007, the album’s debut single, "Just to Feel That Way," has yet to crack Billboard’s Hot 100.

-Ford, the show's major sponsor, signed Hicks to promote Ford's "Drive on Us" year-end sales event, and performed the song “Possibilities” in the TV ads

-He was named People magazine "Hottest Bachelor" in 2006

-Hicks received a reported $750,000 advance from Random House to write a memoir of his life to be published this spring.

KATHARINE MCPHEE (Runner- Up)

-McPhee's debut single, "Somewhere Over the Rainbow/My Destiny" was released on June 27, 2006 by RCA Records.

-"Rainbow" remained in its peak position of No. 2 for seven weeks

-McPhee had the second best-selling single of 2006 with "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" / "My Destiny"

-Released on January 30, 2007, her self-titled debut CD came in at No. 2 on the charts and sold 116,000 in the first week.

-However, it plunged to No. 61 in just six weeks, with sales of little over 240,000 copies.

-The album’s first single was the Top 40 hit, "Over It"

-She performed with Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli during his tour in the United States

-She admitted to having problems with bulimia, a severe father and a reading disorder.

ELLIOTT YAMIN (3rd Place) -A high school dropout and former Foot Locker shoe store clerk, Yamin sang his way past fan favorites Chris Daughtry, Paris Bennett and Kellie Pickler

-March 2007: Yamin’s self-titled debut bowed at No. 3 on The Billboard 200 and sold more than 90,000 copies its first week of release

-Elliott was the fifth finalist from Season 5 to reach The Billboard 200.

-Elliott Yamin also bowed at No. 11 on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and at No. 1 on Top Independent Albums.

CHRIS DAUGHTRY(4th Place)

-Upon his departure from the show, Daughtry turned down an offer to front rock band Fuel.

-He eventually found himself signing an album deal with Clive Davis, in conjunction with 19Recordings/ RCA Records

-Released on November 21, 2006, his debut album Daughtry opened at No. 2 on Billboard 200, reaching the top spot twice.

-In its first week out, Daughtry sold 304,000 copies

-It is the fastest-selling rock debut in SoundScan history, shifting 1.9 million copies in 16 weeks.

-Daughtry passed the 2 million mark in March 2007

-The first single, ”It's Not Over,” is a Top 10 smash that has conquered all digital, mobile, radio and video platforms.

-Daughtry has become the first "Idol" finalist not to finish in the top two spots to have a No. 1 album on The Billboard 200.

-The only other "Idol" singers to have No. 1 albums on The Billboard 200 are Kelly Clarkson, Clay Aiken and Ruben Studdard.

-Daughtry, one of the few “American Idol” stars who have distinguished themselves as songwriters, played Times Square on New Year's Eve.

KELLIE PICKLER(6th Place)

-Released on October 31, 2006, her debut, Small Town Girl, hit the pop charts at No. 9 and No. 1 on the Top Country Albums chart

-After 18 weeks around the Top 100, it shot up about 30 places to No. 66.

-Pickler also made her first appearance on The Billboard Hot 100, when "Red High Heels" debuted at No. 99; the song debuted at No. 48 on Hot Country Songs.

BUCKY COVINGTON(8th Place)

-2007: Covington, whose real name is William Joel Covington, entered Hot Country Songs at No. 57 with his first single, "A Different World."

-Covington is the fifth "Idol" contender to appear on this chart, following Kelly Clarkson, Josh Gracin, Carrie Underwood and Kellie Pickler.

-His debut album, Bucky Covington, was released on April 17, 2007.

2003 -- SEASON 6
