Sheriff Excluded From Border Meeting

KFOX has shown you numerous times how activity along the border has been heating up.

Especially in the rural county areas like Hudspeth County where KFOX captured exclusive video showing what looks to be Mexican military along the U.S. Mexico border.

On Tuesday, the Mexican consulate decided to host a meeting about how their government wants to help the U.S., but Hudspeth County Sheriff Arvin West was not invited.

"But in this particular case we are talking about some federal issues here and that's the reason why we didn't request some local authorities and just the request of Sheriff (Leo) Samaniego," said Socorro Cordova from the Mexican Consulate.

"I repeatedly asked the consulate to set up a meeting so we could have a quick response on their side and he continuously fails to respond to that," West said.

And because he wasn't invited to Tuesday's meeting, he wrote a letter asking for the third time to meet with the Mexican consulate.

"I don't know what his real question is because we have communication with the sheriff's office here and we recognize the leadership of them here," Cordova said.

Yet, Sheriff West said they don't recognize him because he brought attention to border issues like when a Mexican customs agent was allegedly caught with a GPS tracking system on a back Hudspeth County road.

It's because of issues like this that West said he is being ignored.

"We are talking about this is at a high level committee. We are talking about the Mexican consulate, which is a federal agency, and how we represent the federal government in Mexico we don't have any intention of slighting anyone," Cordova said.

"You know I have asked them time and time, quit making excuses, let's work together, let's get this problem resolved and let's get a game plan to where we can stop some of this stuff. But there again, it's like I am talking to a wall," West said.
