Johnson, Liukin Earn Berths On Women's Gymnastics Team

Shawn Johnson and Nastia Liukin's rivalry will be headed to Beijing.

The U.S. gymnasts finished 1-2 at the Olympic trials in Philadelphia on Sunday, guaranteeing them spots on the U.S. team. The pair also finished 1-2 at nationals two weeks ago.

Now Johnson and Liukin have to wait to find out who will be going to Beijing with them. The rest of the six-member team and three alternates will be named after a July 20 selection camp in Houston.

Horton, Hamm Nominated To Men's Gymnastics Team

Defending all-around Olympic gold medalist Paul Hamm and Jonathan Horton were nominated to the 2008 Olympic men's gymnastics team after Saturday's team trials in Philadelphia.

"I've worked my whole life for this, to make the Olympic Team," said Horton. "All of these athletes have pushed me to where I'm at today. I was just having fun out there today. I'm more confident with my gymnastics then I've ever been before."

Horton finished first in the all-around rankings at trials to earn his nomination to the Olympic team. Hamm, who is recovering from a broken hand, filed a petition to the Olympic Team, which was accepted.

"I have a lot of work to do to get healthy and show the committee I'm ready," Hamm said.

On Sunday, the rest of the men's team was named. The Beijing-bound squad includes Paul Hamm's twin brother, Morgan, Kevin Tan, Joseph Hagerty and Justin Spring. The alternates were Sasha Artemev, David Durante and Raj Bhavsar.

Divers Wilkinson, Dumais Make 3rd Olympic Teams

Laura Wilkinson tallied seven perfect 10s en route to finishing first in the 10m platform at the U.S. Olympic diving trials to earn a trip to her third Olympics.

The Texan, who won gold in the 10m platform at the 2000 Sydney Games, scored perfect marks from all of the judges on her reverse 3 1/2 tuck in the third round. It was the first time in Wilkinson's career that she earned all perfect marks for a dive.

Wilkinson's topped 15-year-old Haley Ishimatsu and Cassandra Cardinell at the trials. While the 30-year-old earned an automatic spot on the U.S. Olympic team, Ishimatsu, Cardinell and the remaining top six divers were invited to a selection camp where the rest of the Beijing-bound squad will be chosen.

In the men's 10m platform competition, Indiana's David Boudia topped Thomas Finchum to earn the automatic Olympic spot. Boudia tallied 11 perfect 10s during Sunday's finals en route to winning a trip to his first Olympics.

Finchum was second and Drew Livingston was third.

On Saturday, Troy Dumais and Christina Loukas locked up Olympic berths by winning the 3-meter springboard titles at trials.

For California's Dumais, the victory secured his third trip to the Olympics. Loukas will be making her first Olympic appearance in Beijing.

"It still hasn’t sunk in yet. I’m a bit overwhelmed right now," Loukas said.

As in the platform competition, the second Olympic berths in the 3m event, as well as the synchronized diving teams, will be determined at the selection camp.
