KFOX News brings satellite technology to El Paso. KFOX has officially launched the “KFOX Mobile Satellite,” the first and only of its kind in our area. Now, KFOX News crews will be able to broadcast from anywhere at anytime. It has all the traditional capabilities of a live truck in a smaller package that’s economically friendly. In the past, news crews faced “dead spots” or areas where a signal from live trucks was just not possible. Now, no matter where the breaking news happens, anywhere in the country, KFOX has the ability to bring viewers the events live. This type of technology doesn’t come cheap, but News Director Elizabeth O’Hara knows the investment into our viewers is worth the costs.
The mobile satellite features an omni-directional microwave which eliminates the use of a mast making it safer for crews. It also holds a full editing suite for reporters to bring viewers breaking news in real time. Another feature is in line with our “KFOX Green Living” initiative. The truck itself utilizes Flex Fuel—an ethanol fuel that lowers our dependence on fossil fuels helping us become more eco-friendly.
